Colleen R. Lee
The Writer Formally Known as The Frumpy Housewife
Many years ago, when my children were all under the age of 6, I started writing a column for Richmond Parents Monthly called "The Frumpy Zone." It was a slightly irreverent take on the journey of motherhood. My goal was to let other mothers know that perfection, at least in the Frumpy Zone, was impossible. My hope was that other moms would read my words and not feel so alone. Flash forward 16 years, and I realize that my message is still relevant. I'm posting my articles in a weekly blog, but with a twist: I will add a reflection piece at the end of each article. I was in my thirties when I wrote these articles and in the middle of the chaos of raising three children. Now that my children are in college and high school, my perceptions of parenthood have changed and so have I. This blog is a way to reflect on those chaotic years and hopefully share a little wisdom along the way.
So, we will revisit the Frumpy Zone...a place that is truly never very far away if you have kids. Enjoy your stay.
Colleen R. Lee is currently a writer, elementary school librarian, mother, wife and a voracious reader. She is happy to report that she was able to keep her sense of humor and sanity during her stay in the Frumpy Zone.
